Our initial meeting with a new student generally consists of four parts:
An initial meeting session is 80 minutes
A regular session for a returning student will begin with the student and tutor reviewing the student's recent progress. Students are asked to spend 20-30 minutes every day completing assignments in the Khan Academy system (or Prodigy Math for Elementary students). Their progress and efforts are tracked and used by the tutor to prepare each tutoring session. Students are initially assigned questions from the previous grade to identify learning gaps or demonstrate strong foundational understanding. Additionally, this helps students build momentum and familiarize themselves with the learning system. Furthermore, the intent of homework is not for the students to “figure things out on their own”, rather to practice and demonstrate what concepts they have understood.
The student and tutor will then work through any concepts from the assigned homework that showed area for growth.
Finally, the student a tutor will create a plan for following week and the tutor will deliver a report to parent and discuss the student's progress
